FMEnhancer: File Manager Enhancer Copyright ExeWorks 1993-1994 What is it? - This program lets you create your own custom menu for the Windows File Manager. - It also lets you pass a file you find in the File Manager, to a program you have placed in your own custom menu (see online help "Edit a menu item"). That is, it will start the program in your custom menu passing the chosen file. This allows you to view, manipulate, etc. any file you see while in the File Manager (not compatible with all programs). - Each program used in your custom menu can be one of the following: bat, exe, com or a pif file. That is, the file ends with a .bat, .exe, .com or .pif. The "program" can also be file that has already been "associated" with an executable program. For example, a .txt file is by default "associated" with the notepad program. - This program also allows you to view a file, in both hex and ascii, from the File Manager. - This program can provide you with hidden information about many windows executable programs, drivers, font files, etc. This hidden information is usually the manufacturer's name or the full name of the executable program, driver, font, etc. This can be useful when cleaning up old, unneeded files or just for general information. What do you need? - This program requires Windows 3.1 and the Windows File Manager (which comes standard with Windows 3.1). Installation: To install make sure all of the FMEnhancer files are in one directory. Then run the install.exe program from windows. This program will ask you for a destination directory. You can use the same directory for your source and destination. Also you must not install these files while the Windows File Manager is running. Further installation information: FMEnhancer is composed of four files: fmenhanc.dll, fmenhanc.hlp, whv.exe and wtv.exe. These files along with the install.exe file must be located in the same directory (on the hard disk or floppy disk) in order to be installed correctly. The installation program will copy these files to the destination directory selected. It will also create a new file, fmenhanc.dat. These files must all remain in the destination directory. The installation program will also add a the line to your winfile.ini: "FMEnhancer=..." showing the directory of the FMEnhancer programs. This is used by the FMEnhancer to find the programs it needs to run. Do not modify this line. If the files are moved to another directory, run install.exe using the new FMEnhancer directory as both the source and destination directories.
